Fabby!

Just hanging around...

Found a micro challenge on Caardvarks to make a card;
- Use only black & white colors
- Create a funky greeting

I used black paper and white card, American Craft rub ons, zebra felt from LSS, had cut flowers, printed sentiment using a funky font, hand stitching, doodling and inking using black ink.

Also found a new forum that Bex has started - all things crafty, should be fab :)

Tasty Template!

*Just a quick note before I get on with the important stuff... to quantify the bit about Turophobia in my last post... Cheese is evil.*

and on to more important stuff :)

Today is Friday...yay! Which means that it is dare day and today is a super special dare as it is completely sponsored by Self Addressed.

Self Addressed very kindly donated papers, cards and envelopes (from various SA kits) to the whole of the DCM team to see what we could come up with. So I (Jane) came up with the following template for you and the team to follow.
We would like to thank Jen at Self Addressed for her generous support of our blog, we really appreciate it. Many thanks Self Addressed!

So in usual headlong fashion, I managed to not take on board the template bit - only the most important bit of the dare...Doh! and made this;
Blonde episode over, I turned the template on its side and made these;

I added; American Crafts rub ons, One of Bety's fabby flowers, Papermania Brad and Eyelets, Sizzix Hardware and printed sentiments. All the paper and card is from the SA kits :)

The papers from the self addressed kit are just so yummy and were so much fun to work with and Jane's template is fab. The rest of the DCM have created some amazing little pieces of art using the template - check out the blog here

TFL :)

Tagaroonie.

I have been tagged by Sheila...
Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to blog about their 7 things and post the rules as well
At the end of your blog you need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names.
Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog.
1) I have Turophobia (might need to google that one!)
2) I have 'shoulder dimples'....so does my sister, never met anyone else with them though...
3) I like drinking tomato juice, coffee and those posh chocolatey drinks with cream on from Starbucks
4) My fav programme (at the mo.) is Prison Break, with Heroes coming a close second.
5) Apart from Sleeping and Bathing, I live in my pink crocs.
6) I don't have a middle name.
7) If I had a big enough garden, I would like a pet cow.

I am guessing that most have been tagged by now, but you haven't and want to play along.... consider yourself tagged!

Made this card for my Uncle's Birthday last week....

I do think that stars are the universal embellie for mens cards lol.
I used Basic Grey papers, Ikea paper string, Die cut stars and pocket, Hand Stitching, and Inking.

You're a Star!

Fabby news;
The Wonderful and Oh So Talented Tartan Lass herself; LYNNE has agreed to join the DCM Design Team as a Full Time, Fully-Fledged Daring Cardmaker.
woohoo :) Lynne's work is so lush and it is brilliant to have her as a member of the team :)

The delectable Kathy set this week's little extra dare....

You're probably wondering what we have decided to challenge you with for our Little Extra this Terrific Tuesday, aren't you? Well, what we'd like you to do this time is to confine your colour choices to the three primary colours; Red, Yellow & Blue. You can use just one, two or all three and we'll let you have a bit of white or black just to make it nice and easy.

(Hope she doesn't notice that the little circles on the stars may be edged in a hint of green oh and I may have used a brown inkpad....) *rushes off to the norty corner* anyhoo with those little cheats, I created this;

Basic Grey and Paperchase papers, Ikea paper string, Hand stitching, Inking, Scalloped Scissors - a bargain on eBay and a printed sentiment.

TFL...don't forget to check out the other fabalicious cards on the DCM blog :)

Forgot to Say....

Happy St George's Day...

and found this....

Fab! (and Mr Carlyle is in it) *swoons*

Fun, Funky, Fabulous FELT...

Huge apologies for being a bad blogger, I have had some magazine comissions to finish which have taken up quite a lot of my time and added to that, had a dodgy stomach bug which has now taken it's toll on the rest of the family so mostly we are the house of ill at the mo.....

Anyway, one commission down and one to go...

Huge apologies also to Gillian as I am now late with her fabulous dare...

G'day everyone Gillian here, it's my turn to dare you this week, as you may have noticed felt is really hot in the crafting world at the moment, and it's available in so many ways now, in sheet form in a rainbow of colours, precut shapes, beautiful felt borders, even lovely patterned felt and felt with glitter...
So I reckon it's a great medium to dare you with.
So here's the dare, Make a card and include some felt,
the theme & style are entirely up to you,
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Felt is such fun, I made a card Saturday night but.... the comment that was given (from Jase) involved the words 'pile of' and a word that rhymes with 'Grommet' so I tried again lol. I have to agree that the first card I made may have been a tad busy and might have had a few too many colours - I blame the fact that I was watching 'Any Dream Will Do' that it came out in vivid technicolour.... Looking at the card now, I think that perhaps it is not ever destined to be seen on my blog.... So here is felt card number two....

Paper is Basic Grey and from the Papermill Shop, Funky Zebra Felt and Black felt is from my LSS - Framework Art and Craft, Ribbon from Little Silver Hat, and blanket stitching around the edge, doodling and inking to finish.

A little Extra....

This week's little extra falls under the 'be prepared' category in the guise of New Home cards....
I used Basic Grey Gypsy papers, the fab little flowers are downloaded from Jason Gaylor, edited a little bit in Photoshop and printed, hand cut house and roof, felt and button window, ribbon from Little Silver Hat and a MM cheeky clip. Inking a little bit of stitching and doodling.

Thank you so much to everyone that pops by my blog - I so need 36 hour days at the mo, but.... Joshie is now back at school after a much fun Easter break (I think that Jared is secretly enjoying having the house back to himself) and once I have got a few bits of magazine work finished, I should (hopefully) have more time on my hands...

Crossing Continents

Saffa's turn to dare this week;

I, (Saffa) come from a very multicultural background and love being able to see them all from within and this is what has inspired this weeks challenge....take a deep breath...
I would like you to make a card that celebrates and reflects a festival from another culture to your own....

So here are some ideas to get you started:
Chinese New Year,
Eid,
Hanukkah,
Persian New Year,
Diwali,
Sinhalese New Year,
Kwanzaa,
St. Patrick's day
.

After toying with the idea of making a card for 'Winter Veil' - the WoW celebration in December, (it is part of the gaming culture (!)), I actually settled on making a card for Diwali - The Festival of Light.

Paper is Making Memories Boho Chic, Overlay is made using photoshop brushes - this is really bad but I can't remember where I go them from, I did check to see that they were free for personal use though! :) Papermania Brad and Staples and Eyelet from Stash. Sentiment is stamped using a nifty little set from Lidl.

The design team's beautiful cards are here...

Super Toby...

I hope everyone had a fab Easter break, we spent the weekend with family and friends, Rachie and John visited Saturday and briefly this morning before travelling back to Chester *waves* and we went to Leamington to celebrate Toby's Birthday with him on Sunday... Birthday boy loved posing for photos...

Getting one of the three boys together was a little more tricky...

and I subjected Toby to being turned into a Poppet for his card :)

Hello....

I saw a challenge on Carolyn's to use something from your stash that you have not used in over a year... I actually have never used any of these foam flowers but have had them for over a year and they were about to make their way into the boys box of craft stuff...

Paper; Basic Grey Pheobe and Stella Ruby, Cardstock; Bazzill, Ric Rac and Brads; Carolyn's, Pom Pom stuff; Paperchase, Foam Flower, Silk Flower, Button and Paperclip; from stash! Inking, Doodling and Hand Stitching.

The Hello sentiment I made using text boxes on Word, printed on to the reverse of the Acetate, (mirroring the image) so that there is no chance of smudging as the printing ends up on the inside of the Acetate :) I did some step by step instructions for using Word to make a background here :)

Arty Farty Deco

When Rhi announced this week's dare, 'Art Attack' I wanted make a card using the colours that I saw ages ago on the US Apprentice - not sure which season it was but it was the one that Kendra won... She had to organise a games tournament in Webster Hall. The night club is old school - probably based upon some other period in time but built around the turn of the Century and had huge black and white floors, lots of luscious burgundy and apple green colours and splashes of red velvet. 'Cept after extensive research on the interweb, I still had no clue as to what the style might be. I resorted to plan B - the only art style that I would probably recognise and be able to say what it is! At school, unless you were handy with a paint brush or could draw a near perfect still life we were written off at the first lesson so I have no idea about any art styles or artists unless you can really classify an unmade bed as art lol.

This is Rhi's dare;

I dare you to make a card inspired by a work of art. If the original art is out of copyright (this happens when the creator has been dead for 70 years or more) then you may use elements of the original artwork in your piece. Otherwise its inspiration only. Look out for colours, patterns, textures, compositions, shapes or themes that inspire you, and remember to show us the piece of art that inspired you to create so we can see the common ground.

What is art anyway? It's completely subjective, so your chosen inspiration could be architecture, one off design or mass produced products. Please remember to respect the right of the artist not to have their work copied without permission, take inspiration instead and make your own art!

Based upon the shapes of the period...

The style of art, furniture and architecture from this period is just yummy, the bold shapes with rounded corners.... and of course the fabulous ice cream colours like the ones on Miami Beach.I made this...

Paper is Basic Grey, Bazzill card, SEI Brads, Dream *designs* Flowers, Font is Empire State Deco from Dafont, Hand Stitching and Inking.

We have had so much fun playing with art this week, the other fabulous arty cards are on the blog, TFL :) amd can't wait to see your little pieces of art :)

CPS 8 - Anniversary

managed to combine the CPS 8 sketch with a commissioned anniversary card. Multitasking at last lol! Paper is mostly Basic Grey Stella Ruby, Transparency made again on Typogenerator (actually found some vellum this time to print it on...) Dream Designs and Prima Flowers, SEI Brads, Ribbon and Ric Rac is I think from Carolyns, Ikea Paper String, Hand Stitching and Inking. The Heart I made using Aluminium tape, which was from Lidls and pretty bargainous :)

Verily Very Vintage

Hmmm was a bit confused by the name of the little extra 'Vintage'. On planet Jo, where I live some of the time (others may say most!) Vintage is anything 'not of the now' par exemple, today I have a dress on (don't worry it does have jeans underneath it:)). It used to belong to my sister *waves* and is *cough* a few years old so therefore is vintage... Looking around the interweb, I have discovered that 'Vintage' in card making is an entirely different affair. The dictionary defines it thus; Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic.
So I made this....
Paper is K & Co and Basic Grey, Printed Sentiment, K & Co Frame, Ikea Paper String, Prima flower, Eyelet, Screw Brad and Jewellery Tag from stash. Inking and Hand Stitching.

Butterfly...

This week's Wednesday Stamper is themed 'coloured' - Do you have a favorite way of colouring your rubber stamp images or backgrounds? Or do you like to colour a photograph? We’re anxious to seeing your favorite colouring !

I don't have a wide range or stamps or things to colour them with, I think that my watercolour pencils which might have been the only suitable thing vanished a long time ago in to the collective pot of crayons...

I do have though, some dies and patterned paper. I used a sizzix butterfly die cut from foam to make a stamp and stamped it in black on to coloured paper :). - I only also have 3 colours of ink pads, brown, black and pink so using them was not an option...

I also used Basic Grey Phoebe paper, angel kisses flowers, cuttlebug circle frame, ribbon from Little Silver Hat, a bit of mum's net curtain (!) button, staple and eyelets from stash, hand stitching and doodling.

The overlay is from Typo Generator I used the word 'Butterfly' and used the generator to randomise it, printed the result on to paper (I would like to say vellum but I think it was cheapo tracing paper!). A pretty cool overlay methinks :)
